Genesis Belanger: Zip Bag
$20 Non-Member; $17 Member
Recycled cotton canvas bag with zipper
Produced by The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum
9 x 6 inches
Made in U.S.A.
This limited-edition bag features artwork by Genesis Belanger, an artist whose work jumbles objects we commonly handle, wear, and devour with anatomical parts. Taking surrealist cues from artists such as René Magritte and Salvador Dalí, and embracing consumerism in a similar fashion to Pop artists like Marisol and Claes Oldenburg, the artist creates works that blur reality and art historical references.
The zip bag features Belanger's 2017 stoneware and porcelain sculpture, Double Cherry, in which a pair of fingers curls out from two vanilla ice cream twists, each impaling a maraschino cherry. Double Cherry is exhibited in Objects Like Us, one of five chapters in the meta-group exhibition, The Domestic Plane.
